David Dutch, a survivor who was shot during the assassination attempt of President Donald Trump, has spoken out for the first since his release from the hospital.
Fox News reported that Dutch was one of the two surviving victims from the July 13 rally in Pennsylvania that ended with one firefighter tragically killed. Dutch had attended the rally with his family and was standing in the bleachers behind the stage where President Trump was speaking.
Dutch was shot twice, once in his chest and once in the liver. This is the first time he has spoken since his release from hospital last month.
The New York Post shared that during his 11-day stay in hospital, Dutch underwent multiple surgeries.
In a statement through his attorney at The Law Offices of Max C. Feldman, Fox News reported what the Dutch family had said: “David, his wife, Sheree, and the rest of the Dutch family wish to express their sincerest gratitude for the enormous level of support that they have received from their friends.”
The family also thanked the brave men and women who saved his life that day, including “the police officers, the medics, the life flight crew, and the medical professionals of Allegheny General Hospital, as well as those who continue to care for him as he navigates the road to recovery.”
They expressed their thoughts and prayers for the other victims at the rally: Corey Comperatore, who died as a hero saving his family, and James Copenhaver, who was also shot twice.
The family expressed their gratitude to Trump for his response, saying he “did not cower in face of danger and continues his fight to make America great again and restore America’s position as the most powerful and economically sound country in the world.”
Dutch and his family have requested that the public and media respect their privacy as Dutch continues his journey of recovery during this challenging time. According to Fox News, authorities are still investigating the motive behind the July 13 shooting.
