President Donald Trump agreed on Thursday to hold three debates with Vice President Kamala Harris.
Trump shared the update during a Thursday press conference from his home in Mar-a-Lago addressing Harris and taking questions from reporters.
“It is important to have debates. We have agreed with Fox on a date of September 4. We have agreed with NBC, fairly full agreement subject to them, on September 10. And we have agreed with ABC on September 25,” Trump said.
“We have spoken to the heads of the networks and it has been confirmed other than some very minor details,” he added.
Trump warned that the “other side” must agree, however, something he was uncertain would happen.
“They may or may not agree. I don’t know if they’re going to agree. She has not done an interview. She can’t do an interview. She is barely competent,” Trump argued. “I look forward to the debates.”
Trump continued with a wide-ranging array of topics, including questions and answers with reporters.
In contrast, Harris has gone 18 days since her announcement to run for president without a press conference or major interview.
Harris announced Minnesota Sen. Tim Walz as her vice presidential running mate on Tuesday, another topic Trump addressed during his remarks.
Trump has also criticized Walz on Truth Social. In a Wednesday post, he wrote, “WALZ IS A DISGRACE TO OUR COUNTRY, BUT KAMALA IS FAR WORSE!”
The Harris campaign previously argued that Trump was backing out of a debate with Harris on ABC.
“Donald Trump is running scared and trying to back out of the debate he already agreed to and running straight to Fox News to bail him out,” Harris campaign spokesman Michael Tyler said, in a statement on Saturday, according to NBC News.
“He needs to stop playing games and show up to the debate he already committed to on Sept 10. The Vice President will be there one way or the other to take the opportunity to speak to a prime time national audience,” Tyler said.
