The Martin County Sheriff’s Office released bodycam video of the arrest of Ryan Routh on Sunday in the suspected assassination attempt of President Donald Trump.
Routh was arrested on I-95 after fleeing in a vehicle after Secret Service agents shot toward him at the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida.
The suspect was seen walking backward with his hands behind his head before officers apprehended him.
Routh was found with a rifle featuring a scope, two backpacks and a GoPro camera, according to law enforcement.
On Monday, Routh appeared in court where he was charged with two federal gun charges that included possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm with a destroyed serial number.
The charges could include up to 15 years in prison and $250,000 in fines for the first charge and a maximum of five years and a $250,000 fine for the second charge.
Routh reportedly answered brief questions from the judge through a court-appointed attorney during the 10-minute hearing. He remains under custody pending additional court proceedings.
A detention hearing was scheduled for Sept. 23. A probable cause hearing was scheduled for Sept. 30.
As RSBN previously reported, Trump praised law enforcement for their efforts in stopping a second apparent assassination attempt against him on Sunday.
“I would like to thank everyone for your concern and well wishes – It was certainly an interesting day!,” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social.
“Most importantly, I want to thank the U.S. Secret Service, Sheriff Ric Bradshaw and his Office of brave and dedicated Patriots, and, all of Law Enforcement, for the incredible job done today at Trump International in keeping me, as the 45th President of the United States, and the Republican Nominee in the upcoming Presidential Election, SAFE,” he continued.
“THE JOB DONE WAS ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING. I AM VERY PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN!” Trump concluded.
A press conference on Sunday noted that Secret Service protection was limited since Trump is not the sitting president. The FBI is leading the investigation.
