The First Lady of Florida, Casey DeSantis, returned to the campaign trail on Monday to support her husband, Gov. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., in the wake of her victorious battle against breast cancer.
“Let me say this, no matter what you’re going through,” she remarked, “no matter how hard things seem like they are, no matter how hard it feels like you have to pick yourself off the ground, or you feel like your back is against the wall – fight! Fight like hell!”
According to a report from Fox News, the first lady made the remarks during a “DeSantis Day” event in Sumter County, Florida. Previously, Gov. DeSantis had shared in March that his wife was cancer-free. “All of you who have given thoughts and prayers to my family and my wife, thank you,” he stated in a video message. “It’s lifted her spirits and made a tremendous difference.”
On Sunday, the governor posted a heartwarming message on Twitter to celebrate his wife on Mother’s Day. “Thank you @FLCaseyDeSantis for being the best mother in the world to Madison, Mason and Mamie,” he stated. “We love you!”
During the “DeSantis Day” event, Casey DeSantis shared that it felt good to be on stage again. She joked, “Governor, I don’t know if this sounds very first lady-like, but damn, it feels good to be here!”
Earlier this month, Gov. DeSantis also noted the National Day of Prayer and thanked those who prayed for his wife’s recovery. “On this National Day of Prayer,” he said, “we recognize the power of prayer in our lives. Our family is beyond grateful for the outpouring of support for @FLCaseyDeSantis’ fight against cancer earlier this year. Your prayers made a difference!”
According to Fox News, Florida’s first lady has been responsible for launching a family assistance program, “Hope Florida Initiative – A Pathway to Prosperity,” which has reached more than 25,000 Floridians with economic needs.
