Jeff Zucker, president of CNN, resigned Wednesday after failing to disclose a romantic relationship with an executive at CNN. Zucker’s resignation stunned the media as it comes on the heels of CNN’s internal investigation into Chris Cuomo.
In a memo to CNN staff members, Zucker wrote, “As part of the investigation into Chris Cuomo’s tenure at CNN, I was asked about a consensual relationship with my closest colleague, someone I have worked with for more than 20 years. I acknowledged the relationship evolved in recent years. I was required to disclose it when it began but I didn’t. I was wrong. As a result, I am resigning today.”
CNN anchor Chris Cuomo was suspended indefinitely from the network in November following the release of documents by New York Attorney General Letitia James which indicated his involvement in former Governor Andrew Cuomo’s sexual harassment scandal.
In a statement, CNN wrote, “These documents point to a greater level of involvement in his brother’s efforts than we previously knew. As a result, we have suspended Chris indefinitely, pending further evaluation.”
A recent report highlighted the sharp decline of CNN, showing that the network lost 80 percent of its viewers since President Trump left office. Since the 2020 presidential election, CNN has steadily declined in viewership. This, combined with the Chris Cuomo scandal and now the Jeff Zucker scandal, has left conservatives celebrating the downfall of what Trump calls the “fake news media.”
President Trump quickly commented on Zucker’s resignation, saying, “Jeff Zucker, a world-class sleazebag who has headed ratings and real-news-challenged CNN for far too long, has been terminated for numerous reasons, but predominantly because CNN has lost its way with viewers and everybody else.”
Trump has been perhaps the most vocal critic of the mainstream media ever since he began his 2016 campaign for president. Both the news media and social media have consistently tried to discredit the 45th president and prevent him from sharing his message with the American people.
In an effort to provide Americans with the truth, Trump has promised to create a new social media platform that will allow Americans to enjoy a free speech platform free from CNN fact checkers and the biased liberal media. Trump’s platform, Truth Social, is expected to launch this month.
The decline of CNN provides conservatives with renewed optimism that Americans prefer accurate news instead of liberal propaganda. In his statement, Trump said, “Now is a chance to put Fake News in the backseat because there may not be anything more important than straightening out the horrendous LameStream Media in our Country, and in the case of CNN, throughout the World.”
Trump ended by celebrating the departure of Zucker from CNN. He wrote, “Jeff Zucker is gone-congratulations to all!”
Despite that Zucker’s CNN has smeared the Trump administration on live television for years, Trump is getting the last laugh amid Zucker’s forced resignation as the network’s ratings continue to decline.
