House Oversight Committee James Comer, R-Ky., will initiate contempt of Congress proceedings this week after meeting with the FBI over the FD-1023 document alleging Joe Biden engaged in a $5 million bribery scheme with a foreign national.
The congressman wrote on Twitter on Monday that the FBI confirmed the allegations in the unclassified record are “from a highly credible informant & being used in an ongoing investigation.”
“The FBI refused to hand over the doc,” he added. “I will hold Director Wray in contempt of Congress.”
The House Oversight Committee issued a press release where Comer stated that the “information contained within it is currently being used in an ongoing investigation.”
He later added, “we will now initiate contempt of Congress proceedings.”
“Given the severity and complexity of the allegations contained within this record, Congress must investigate further,” Comer continued. “Americans have lost trust in the FBI’s ability to enforce the law impartially and demand answers, transparency, and accountability. The Oversight Committee must follow the facts for the American people and ensure the federal government is held accountable.”
The contempt of Congress hearings are set to begin on Thursday.
