Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., has predicted a “glorious” victory for Trump in November among the nation’s voters, citing a new NBC News poll from late January that shows the president gaining robust support among many diverse groups.

Per NBC’s poll, Trump leads Biden among Latino voters and is tied in the mainstream poll at 42 percent among voters ages 18 to 34. Trump is also leading Biden by nearly 20 points with Independent voters, according to their data.

Rep. Gaetz, who is a strong Trump ally, wrote on X, “We are going to win: Independents[.] Hispanics[.] Black men[.] It’s going to be glorious.”

While Biden holds an overall edge with Black voters in mainstream polls, the political winds have shifted over the past few months.

According to a November 2023 article from The New York Times, 22 percent of Black voters in six battleground swing states said they would vote for President Donald Trump in the general election.

NYT columnists Maya King and Lisa Lerer wrote, “Black voters are more disconnected from the Democratic Party than they have been in decades, frustrated with what many see as inaction on their political priorities and unhappy with President Biden, a candidate they helped lift to the White House just three years ago.”

The NBC News poll found that in a hypothetical rematch with third parties on the ballot, Trump had a solid six-point lead over Biden in the 2024 general election, holding 41 percent of support against Biden’s 35 percent.

A recent UMass/YouGov poll reiterated Trump’s strong national lead in the general election, finding him with a four-point lead over Biden and Independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. In their poll, Trump also held a 22-point lead among Independent voters.

President Trump widely leads former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley in the GOP primary matchup in NBC’s poll, as well, trouncing her with a 60-point lead heading into the Nevada caucus and the South Carolina primary, both of which will take place in February.
