Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., has indicated he is open to voting for some of President-elect Trump’s proposed cabinet picks and to promoting an overall spirit of cooperation with the incoming administration.
In an interview with Fox News’ Brett Baier, Fetterman indicated he was meeting with several of Trump’s cabinet nominees and was planning to meet with them all.
Tulsi Gabbard has been nominated as President Trump’s director of national intelligence (DNI). When asked if Gabbard was one of the nominees he could vote for, Fetterman indicated a willingness to consider her along with Trump’s other nominees.
“I met with her. In fact I think I’ve met with virtually all of them, and the ones that I haven’t they are on my schedule,” Fetterman said. “RFK and Governor Noem, I’m happy to meet with all of them.”
Senator Fetterman also discussed the backlash he has experienced from his own party regarding his openness to considering Trump’s cabinet picks.
“I don’t know why that was controversial. I got a lot of blowback even to meet with them…I see that as just doing my job and I’m going to have a conversation with anyone that would like to have a conversation with me,” he stated.
Fetterman specifically indicated he would be voting for Marco Rubio, who has been nominated as Secretary of State. He also expressed support for nominees including Rep. Elise Stefanick, R-NY who has been nominated as Trump’s pick for U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, Sean Duffy as the nominee for U.S. Secretary of Transportation, and Brooke Rollins as the nominee for U.S. Secretary of Agriculture.
Fetterman issued a reminder to his own side that supporting Trump’s nominees was consistent with the results of the election.
“I also would like to remind everyone on the Democratic side that’s the way democracy works. Trump won and now they’re going to run the table. You don’t have to agree with all of it, but I want to find a way to work together on a bunch of them,” Fetterman said.
