President Donald Trump stated on Monday that he is open to billionaire Elon Musk having a role in his presidential administration.

Trump shared the surprising news in a Reuters interview in York, Pennsylvania, as he was holding an event in the area.

“He’s a very smart guy. I certainly would, if he would do it, I certainly would. He’s a brilliant guy,” Trump said.

Trump also noted his view on electric vehicles, an important area related to Musk’s Tesla EV company.

“I’m not making any final decisions on it,” Trump said of the EV tax credit. “I’m a big fan of electric cars, but I’m a fan of gasoline-propelled cars, and also hybrids and whatever else happens to come along.”

“I am willing to serve,” Musk wrote later on Monday in a humorous post on X.

The post included an AI-generated image of himself behind a Department of Government Efficiency (D.O.G.E.) podium.

The news followed the viral interview held between Musk and Trump earlier in August. It was reportedly viewed over one billion times in under 24 hours.

Musk shared during the interview that he would like to work on a government efficiency commission to cut wasteful spending.

“I’d love it,” Trump responded during the discussion, referring to Musk as “the great cutter” of inefficiencies.

As RSBN previously reported, Musk stated in the past that he did not plan to donate to either President Joe Biden or Trump’s campaigns. The Tesla and SpaceX founder changed his view following an assassination attempt against Trump during his Pennsylvania rally.

“I fully endorse President Trump and hope for his rapid recovery,” Musk wrote on X alongside a video from the shooting.

In a later post, Musk added, “Last time America had a candidate this tough was Theodore Roosevelt.” Musk also reportedly committed to donating $45 million per month to Trump-affiliated super PAC. He later spoke out against the claims, stating that he was donating to the group but did not specify a particular amount.
