Singer Lee Greenwood will be one of the performers at the celebration of America’s 250th anniversary later this summer. Speaking to Newsmax, Greenwood said he would be present in Washington, D.C., for the celebration and would perform his well-known song, “God Bless the USA.”
Greenwood said he originally authored the song in 1983 and watched it grow from a country music hit to a military anthem. He has performed the song for 10 presidents, including frequent performances at President Trump’s rallies. He joined big names such as Kid Rock, Jason Aldean, and Carrie Underwood to perform at Trump’s inaugural celebrations last year.
Greenwood recalled the song’s significance during major moments in America’s history, most notably after 9/11, when he repeatedly performed the song to honor policemen who died in the Twin Towers.
Amid political division, Greenwood emphasized that he hoped “God Bless the USA” could serve as a source of inspiration and unity for Americans. He urged participation in national celebrations and said cooperation was the most important route to solving the nation’s problems.
The administration’s planning for the celebration of America’s 250th anniversary has been underway for over a year, with a dedicated task force overseeing preparations. The event will take place on July 4, 2026, in Washington, D.C. In promoting the event, the administration has encouraged participation from federal, state and local governments, as well as the private sector and individual citizens. In the lead-up to the event, the administration has produced a “Story of America” video series featuring inspiring stories from the founding of the U.S.
According to the White House, the celebration “invites citizens to have a renewed love of American history, experience the beauty of our country and ignite a spirit of adventure and innovation that will raise our nation to new heights over the next 250 years.”
