For weeks now, House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., has sought a specific FD-1023 from the FBI in connection to the Biden family crimes investigation. FBI Director Chris Wray has refused to even acknowledge the existence of the document until this week.
Then, during his scheduled call with Wray, James Comer finally received confirmation that the FBI is in possession of the document.
The House Oversight Committee tweeted about the information stating, “FBI Director Wray has confirmed the existence of the FD-1023 form alleging then-Vice President Biden engaged in a criminal bribery scheme with a foreign national.”
Instead of turning the document in to the House Committee as ordered by a subpoena, Wray offered to allow the Committee members to view the document at FBI Headquarters.
Comer tweeted this information, and also said, “Anything short of producing these documents to @GOPoversight is not in compliance with my subpoena.”
The FBI told Newsweek that FD-1023 documents are “used by FBI agents to record unverified reporting by a confidential human source,” and that “Information from confidential human sources and members of the public is critical to the work of the FBI.”
But the document in question is supposedly unclassified. This means that it is not protected from being used in investigations.
Now that it is clear that the FBI has no intention of aiding the House Oversight Committee by adhering to the subpoena and handing over the FD-1023, Comer is preparing to hold Wray in contempt.
He tweeted, “I am drafting legislation to hold FBI Director Wray in contempt of Congress. @GOPoversight will vote on this next week if the FBI continues to defy my lawful subpoena.”
Comer has remained firm in his position on investigating potential corruption. He also reminded Americans that “The FBI is not above Congress.”
