On Wednesday, FBI Director Christopher Wray appeared to hint that Joe Biden was under criminal investigation while testifying before the House Judiciary Committee, noting that he wouldn’t be “confirming or denying who is or isn’t under investigation.”
When asked to confirm that Biden was not under investigation, Wray replied, “I didn’t say that either.”
Wednesday’s hearing with Wray comes after months of evidence have begun to emerge related to an alleged bribery scheme linked to Joe Biden and a foreign national.
According to Fox News, the hearing also touched on IRS whistleblower Gary Shapley, who previously testified that the DOJ had significantly slow-walked an investigation revolving around Hunter Biden, the son of Joe Biden.
Wray denied that the FBI was “protecting” the Bidens from investigation or prosecution when pressed by Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla.
During the hearing, Gaetz read aloud a WhatsApp message that was allegedly sent from Hunter Biden to a Chinese energy company executive.
The full message text allegedly read:
“I am sitting here with my father [allegedly Joe Biden] and we would like to understand why the commitment made has not been fulfilled. Tell the director that I would like to resolve this now before it gets out of hand, and now means tonight. And, Z, if I get a call or text from anyone involved in this other than you, Zhang, or the chairman, I will make certain that between the man sitting next to me and every person he knows and my ability to forever hold a grudge that you will regret not following my direction. I am sitting here waiting for the call with my father.”
Gaetz stated to Wray, “You seem deeply uncurious about it, don’t you? Almost SUSPICIOUSLY uncurious. Are you protecting the Bidens?”
Director Wray replied, “Absolutely not. The FBI has no interest in protecting anyone politically.”
Gaetz continued, referring to the WhatsApp message and noting, “That’s a shakedown…and everybody knows why you won’t answer it. Because to the millions of people who will see this, they know it is. And your inability to acknowledge it is deeply revealing about you.”
