First Lady Melania Trump was a class act on Thursday while visiting the Children’s National Hospital in Washington, D.C., where she participated in a sweet Independence Day celebration with a cadre of beaming children.

The hospital is ranked among the top 10 pediatric hospitals in the United States, with expertise in treating complex conditions, including cancer.

The First Lady wore a cream-colored skirt and a white blouse with polka dots. She entered the room, bringing teddy bears for everyone and chatting sweetly with the little patients, who happily greeted Mrs. Trump with a handmade welcome sign and red, white, and blue decorations.

Mrs. Trump decorated crafts with the children inside at a table festooned with art supplies for rock painting. They chatted together while she asked them questions. She also invited the children to come to the White House next year when they “feel better” and celebrate Independence Day “together.”

Later, Mrs. Trump went outside with the children to plant American flags around the hospital grounds in preparation for the 4th of July:

Clips of Mrs. Trump’s time with the hospital’s children spread rapidly online, with many praising the First Lady for her gentle spirit working with children.

“She cares deeply about children and hopefully more people get to see all the great work she has done,” said White House Communications Director Steven Cheung.

The First Lady’s “Be Best” initiative focuses on improving the welfare and well-being of America’s children, including social, emotional and physical health. She has also strongly supported the foster-care community through her work with “Fostering the Future.”
