The Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) announced that its members voted to endorse President Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election.
The organization shared the news in a press release on Friday that was also reposted on Trump’s X account.
“Our presidential endorsement process is thorough and inclusive, involving over 377,000 members across the nation. Today, it’s a privilege to announce that the collective will of our members has led us to endorse Donald J. Trump for President,” the FOP wrote on X.
“We’re committed to supporting leadership that upholds the safety and effectiveness of law enforcement,” it added.
Patrick Yoes, National President of the Fraternal Order of Police, shared his own statement in the organization’s press release.
“During his first term, President Trump made it clear he supported law enforcement and border security,” Yoes said. “In the summer of 2020, he stood with us when very few would. With his help, we defeated the ‘defund the police’ movement and, finally, we are seeing crime rates decrease. If we want to maintain these lower crime rates, we must re-elect Donald Trump.”
Yoes also noted the importance of the endorsement in his statement. The FOP represents 800,000 American law enforcement officers.
“As the nation’s oldest and largest law enforcement labor organization, the FOP’s presidential endorsement is one of the most sought-after endorsements by candidates running for the presidency,” Yoes said.
“The FOP is the number one voice of America’s law enforcement. We have a responsibility to our members, to the 800,000 sworn law enforcement officers in the United States, and to the communities they serve to do our part in determining the direction in which our country will head,” he continued.
Trump accepted the endorsement during his Friday remarks in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Friday.
“With your help, we will restore public safety to our streets, we will bring back law and order to our nation, and we will give the heroes in blue the power to legally protect us and the respect that you deserve, more than any other group of people,” he said.
