Gov. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., is leading the charge to remove influence from the Communist Party of China (CCP) via woke corporations within the state of Florida.
Gov. DeSantis hosted a meeting last week with Florida’s Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis and Attorney General Ashley Moody to evaluate the interest of outside fund managers. In an effort to ensure that investors are financially aligned with the financial interest of the state, the trio unanimously voted to repeal all proxy voting authority from the asset trustees.
Additionally, the state of Florida will conduct a survey of the Florida Retirement System to reveal how many investments are currently held in Chinese companies.
“If you look at how these major companies behave when faced with Chinese disapproval, they censor what the CCP tells them to censor and we see groveling apologies,” said DeSantis.
Reflecting on outdated political policies, “Go back a generation, and the idea of the American elites was, if we allow China into the WTO, and give them the most favored nation status, this will make China more like us,” added DeSantis.
In disagreement with the approach, DeSantis called the practice a failed experiment that has “endangered” the nation’s security.
Upon the return of the state legislature in January, Gov. DeSantis is requesting a statutory change that will protect Florida tax dollars from being spent in China, and to look into ways to re-industrialize manufacturing in Florida rather than offshoring product in China.
“I also think that our country as a whole but certainly Florida would like to see more production and manufacturing re-shored and we would be a great place to do that,” said DeSantis.
This isn’t the first time wokeism has been in the crosshairs of Gov. DeSantis.
Early in December, DeSantis introduced the Stop the Wrongs to Our Kids and Employees (W.O.K.E) act. The legislation prohibits Critical Race Theory (CRT) from being taught in educational facilities and employee training. An action item of the bill is to defund any money from K-12 to the university level that is being used to teach CRT.
“I view the wokeness as a form of cultural Marxism,” said DeSantis. In a similar expression, Senator Rand Paul, R-KY., encouraged a boycott of woke corporations after the MLB boycotted the state of Georgia for passing a bill requiring a voter ID. “Lets boycott them,” said Paul.
Due to Gov. DeSantis’ strong leadership, Florida has become a safe haven for freedom seekers fleeing Covid tyranny. Hopefully, many more Republicans will engage in the fight, and give him backup against “wokeism” and Big Government.
