Virginia Republican Gov. Glenn Youngkin is personally inviting new members of President Donald Trump’s administration to move to Virginia.
The invite calls on Trump’s personnel to settle in the GOP-led state over the District of Columbia or neighboring Democrat-led Maryland.
“To the new members of President Trump’s administration moving to the area, I want to personally invite you to make Virginia your home,” Youngkin said.
“Virginia is right across the Potomac. We offer a great quality of life, safe communities, award-winning schools where parents matter, and lower taxes than D.C. or Maryland,” he added.
The invitation, extending during a video, also called Virginia the best place to live for Trump’s team members.
“It’s why so many people choose Virginia as the best place to live, work and raise a family,” Youngkin said.
Trump also has a stronger voter base in northern Virginia than in other local areas.
“While Trump took just 20% of the vote in Arlington, 24% in Alexandria and 31% in Fairfax County, that’s considerably higher than the 7% he got in D.C.,” Axios reported.
“As for the Maryland suburbs, Trump won 22% in Montgomery County and 11% in Prince George’s County,” it continued.
The announcement also comes shortly after Youngkin’s endorsement of fellow Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears to succeed him as governor next year, while also endorsing Jason Miyares to serve another term as the state’s attorney general.
Youngkin’s term will end in 2025 in the state where governors are only allowed one four-year term.
“In 2021 Winsome, Jason, and I ran as a team and we have served Virginians as a team. In 2025, Winsome and Jason will once again lead the Republican team as candidates for Governor and Attorney General,” Youngkin wrote in a statement.
“Both have been indispensable partners to advance our shared, commonsense conservative policies that have made Virginia the best state in America for business, backed the blue and cracked down on crime, stood strong for our military and veterans, and transformed education by raising teacher pay, re-establishing academic excellence, and empowering parents in their child’s education and life,” he continued.
