House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-LA, will lead a vigil to honor the life of Charlie Kirk in the Capitol on Monday evening, according to reporting from The Hill.

The Speaker will deliver remarks and prayers during the event to commemorate Kirk, with all members of both parties invited to attend.

The memorial will include remarks from other House leaders and members of Congress and will take place before scheduled votes.

Last week, following the assassination of the wildly popular conservative activist, Johnson held a silent moment of prayer for Kirk despite opposition from some Democrats during a shouting match on the House floor.

Johnson delivered remarks on Sunday evening during a vigil for Kirk at the Kennedy Center. “Charlie Kirk recruited and trained and educated a generation of happy warriors, and we do well to be reminded that the best way to honor his memory and to honor his unmatched legacy is to live as Charlie did,” Johnson told the crowd.

The Speaker struggled to hold back tears when discussing Kirk’s kindness and profound commitment to invite lost souls to turn to God. “After those debates, he was always the first person to reach out a hand of friendship or to offer an arm around the shoulder of someone who he felt was lost because in many places, in many cases, the people he was debating were indeed lost, not just philosophically, but spiritually. And Charlie knew the truth, and he knew that eternity awaits us all. We know exactly where Charlie is right now.”

Speaker Johnson later shared his full remarks in a video post on X. “I was honored to speak at Charlie Kirk’s vigil at the Kennedy Center last night, where so many gathered to pay their respects to a life well lived. Our republic was born in sacrifice—and is preserved by courageous Americans like Charlie, who are willing to fight for freedom. The darkness that took his life cannot overcome the light. May God bless the legacy and family of our fallen friend, and this great nation that Charlie so dearly loved.”

The Capitol vigil will take place at 6:15 ET Monday night.
