The Democrat representative who refused to take his seat on Tuesday night during President Trump’s address to Congress has been censured by the U.S. House of Representatives.

The vote to censure Rep. Al Green, D-Texas, on Thursday garnered 214 “yea” votes from Republicans and an additional ten votes from Democrats, surprisingly. In all, the total vote was 224-198 in favor of censuring the congressman.

During the censure vote, Democrats began singing “We Shall Overcome.”

Green caused a disturbance in the chamber this week when he was warned by Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, R-La., to maintain decorum and sit down during the president’s address. At the time, Democrats had been booing and shouting over President Trump’s speech.

When Green refused to cooperate, he was escorted out of the chamber by the House Sergeant at Arms.

Green’s poor behavior on the floor did not earn him any popularity points with the commander-in-chief.

President Trump slammed Green’s behavior this week in comments to Fox News Digital, calling Green a “low IQ individual.”

He added, “Nobody takes him seriously. He is an embarrassment to Congress but a much bigger embarrassment to the Democrats.”

On Tuesday night, after being removed from the chamber by the Sergeant at Arms, Green bombastically told reporters in the hallway that he was working on drafting articles of impeachment against President Trump.

“This president is unfit,” he claimed.

In early February, Green announced that he would work on filing articles of impeachment against President Trump, just days after the president had taken office. His reason for doing so remains patently unclear.

“I rise to announce that I will bring articles of impeachment against the president for dastardly deeds proposed and dastardly deeds done,” he explained last month.
