Encounters at the southern border have dropped to the lowest level in recorded history, thanks to the strong immigration policies of President Donald Trump and his administration’s unflinching implementation of law and order.

According to a new update from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the U.S. Border Patrol apprehended just 8,347 illegal aliens crossing the southwest border in February, representing a 71 percent decrease from January 2025.

This is the all-time lowest recorded number of apprehensions in CBP recorded history, according to the agency.

This is a stark contrast to the 140,641 illegal aliens apprehended in February 2024 when Joe Biden was president.

“At the direction of the administration, we remain unwavering in our mission to prioritize American safety, secure the border, and enforce consequences for those who violate United States law,” CBP Acting Commissioner Pete Flores said in an official statement on Wednesday.

This rapid decrease in illegal migration at the border is a huge win for President Trump, who campaigned strongly on the issue of assuaging the immigration crisis.

In fact, Trump took action in the first few weeks of his second administration to proclaim a national emergency at the southern border to ensure federal law enforcement and military assets could act swiftly to reclaim operational control of the region, and his cabinet is taking this mission seriously.

Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and Border Czar Tom Homan staunchly promised to get the border under control as quickly as possible last month, noting that if it took four years, “we’re not doing our job right.”

In March, Hegseth promised to achieve 100 percent operational control of the border, “FULL STOP.”

“We’re not yet at 100 percent operational control, but we are on our way because that is the mandate that the president has given us,” Hegseth said.

It looks like the Trump administration is well on their way to achieving that goal, in light of the numbers being reported by the CBP.
