Vice President Kamala Harris said she is “open” to reparations if she becomes president of the United States.
Harris revealed the policy position during a live audio town hall with Charlamagne tha God hosted on CNN Tuesday.
“First of all, on the point of reparations, it has to be studied. There’s no question about that. And I’ve been very clear about that position,” Harris told Charlamagne.
The Trump campaign soon released a statement in response to the view presented by the vice president.
“Kamala Harris is a radical liberal,” the statement read. “Kamala said during a radio interview Tuesday that she’s open to reparations: ‘It has to be studied, there’s no question about that.’”
The Trump statement continued, “A 2020 report from NBC News noted that this ‘could cost the U.S. government between $10 trillion and $12 trillion.’”
As a senator in California, Harris supported legislation that would have created a federal commission to study slavery reparations.
Among other issues addressed during the town hall was the Biden-Harris administration’s border crisis.
“Doesn’t the Biden administration have to take some blame for the border, though? A lot of the blame? The first three years, you all did get a lot of things wrong,” Charlamagne asked.
Harris claimed that President Joe Biden “fixed” the problem during the first hours after he was sworn into office.
The town hall aired one day before a pre-recorded interview Harris held with Fox News will be aired. As RSBN reported Tuesday, President Donald Trump criticized Fox News over its plans for a “weak” interview with Vice President Kamala Harris this week.
Trump turned to his Truth Social account on Monday to criticize the selection of Fox News host Bret Baier to sit down with Harris.
“Lyin’ Kamala Harris has wisely chosen Bret Baier, of FoxNews, to do a much needed interview, because he is considered to be ‘Fair & Balanced,’ though often very soft to those on the ‘cocktail circuit’ Left,” he wrote.
“I would have preferred seeing a more hard hitting journalist, but Fox has grown so weak and soft on the Democrats, constantly polluting the airwaves with unopposed Kamala Representatives, that it all doesn’t matter anymore. Hopefully, the people will understand on November 5th, and Early Voting. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” he continued.
The pre-recorded interview with the vice president is set to air on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. Eastern Time during Baier’s “Special Report.”
