President Donald Trump is expected to “work the fry cooker” at a McDonald’s in Pennsylvania this Sunday.
Trump’s attempt to highlight Vice President Kamala Harris’ apparently false claim of working at McDonald’s was first reported by the Philadelphia Inquirer on Tuesday.
“It is unclear where in Pennsylvania the former president will appear at McDonald’s. Trump is scheduled to attend the Steelers-Jets game in Pittsburgh on Sunday,” the outlet stated, citing a source familiar with the matter.
“Kamala never had a job at McDonald’s. Her resume talks about McDonald’s, McDonald’s, McDonald’s,” Trump said at a New York press conference last month, Newsmax noted.
A Trump spokesperson also blasted Harris over the claim of working at McDonald’s.
“Why won’t they just provide real documentation and proof?” Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung asked the Daily Beast. “The onus is on them. What does she have to hide?”
Trump had been talking about the publicity stunt for weeks, including during a rally in Pennsylvania where he said he may “work the French fry job for about a half an hour.” He also mentioned the idea at another rally in Nevada, according to Newsmax.
An August investigative report by the Free Beacon cast doubt on claims by Harris during an interview on “The Drew Barrymore Show” that she worked at the fast-food restaurant.
“I did. Yes, I did work at McDonald’s,” laughed Harris. “When I was at school … I did fries. And then I did the cashier,” Harris said during the interview.
“It is possible that Harris did indeed work at McDonald’s in the early 1980s. But the absence of that detail in public records and her campaign’s coyness and refusal to provide any further details raise questions about what is now a foundational narrative,” the Free Beacon concluded, noting that Harris did not mention the job until 2019 while running for president.
McDonald’s has not commented on whether Harris ever worked for the company.
The matter follows claims earlier this week that parts of the vice president’s 2009 book were plagiarized, adding to concerns about the truth of her past activities.
