The Trump campaign released an ad on Friday criticizing Vice President Kamala Harris over her support of taxpayer-funded sex changes for prisoners.
“Kamala supports taxpayer-funded sex changes for prisoners. ‘Surgery for prisoners. Every transgender inmate in the prison system would have access,’” the ad began, including Harris stating the words during a media interview.
“It’s hard to believe but it’s true. Even the liberal media was shocked Kamala supports taxpayer-funded sex changes for prisoners and illegal aliens,” it added.
The ad ended, “Kamala is for they/them. President Trump is for you.”
CNN reported that Harris agreed with the statement that if elected president, she would “executive authority to ensure that transgender and non-binary people who rely on the state for medical care – including those in prison and immigration detention – will have access to comprehensive treatment associated with gender transition, including all necessary surgical care.”
Harris added that she pushed for gender transition surgery for state inmates as the attorney general of California.
“It is important that transgender individuals who rely on the state for care receive the treatment they need, which includes access to treatment associated with gender transition,” Harris also wrote.
“That’s why, as Attorney General, I pushed the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation to provide gender transition surgery to state inmates,” she wrote.
Trump also spoke out last month against a new California law that allows children to change their gender without a school providing parental notification.
“Kamala Harris supports California’s outrageous new law trampling on parental rights and allowing minor children to change their gender without parental notification or consent. Can you imagine? She’s in favor of that, by the way,” he stated.
The Harris campaign website states, “And as President, she’ll always defend the freedom to love who you love openly and with pride. In 2004, she officiated some of the nation’s first same-sex marriages and as Attorney General, she refused to defend California’s anti-marriage equality statewide referendum.
It adds, “As President, she’ll fight to pass the Equality Act to enshrine anti-discrimination protections for LGBTQI+ Americans in health care, housing, education, and more into law.”
