NASCAR Xfinity series driver Brandon Brown signed a two-year sponsorship deal with LGBcoin, the cryptocurrency group inspired by the anti-Joe Biden chant “Let’s go, Brandon!”
Brown and the cryptocurrency group signed the deal reportedly worth “eight figures,” despite NASCAR forbidding him from advertising the group on his race car.
The “Let’s go, Brandon” chant began after an NBC News post-race interview with driver Brandon Brown, the winner at NASCAR’s Talladega Superspeedway in October.
Fans loudly cheered “F**k Joe Biden,” a common phrase chanted about the unpopular politician at events across the country. NBC’s Kelli Stavast, seemingly trying to salvage Biden’s image, reported that fans were chanting “Let’s go, Brandon!”
“As you can hear the chants from the crowd, ‘Let’s go, Brandon,'” said Stavast.
“Let’s go, Brandon” has since become the new phrase for those wishing to voice their distaste for the unpopular Biden.
Brown admitted in December that he was having a hard time finding sponsors after the “Let’s go, Brandon” chant began. Although he never expressed his personal political views, corporations would not sponsor him because of his name.
LGBcoin and Brown announced their partnership in December, but NASCAR quickly hit the brakes on the deal. The organization said the “Let’s go, Brandon” slogan was too controversial, and that it was disliked by senior bosses.
NASCAR President Steve Phelps denounced the anti-Biden phrase, promising that NASCAR will sue anyone who uses its trademarks on any “Let’s go, Brandon” merchandise.
NASCAR has also prohibited Brown from advertising the LGBcoin group on his car.
Asserting their support for Brown, LGBcoin said he “symbolizes everything great in this country.” The group promised to sponsor him even if their name does not appear on his car.
Brown’s deal will include “personal participation in publicity events, videos, crypto conferences, racing-related events and more, though won’t include car decals,” according to LGBcoin.
