State Sen. Doug Mastriano, R-Pa., has vowed to nominate a secretary of state in Pennsylvania who will uphold election integrity if he is elected governor in November.

Mastriano recently won the GOP gubernatorial primary in the Keystone State, netting a reported 300,000 vote surplus over GOP opponent Lou Barletta.

In a statement posted to Twitter, Mastriano said, “As Governor of Pennsylvania, I’ll nominate a pro-constitution Secretary of State who upholds election laws and protects the sanctity of your vote.”

Mastriano is a combat veteran and a state senator in Pennsylvania’s 33rd district. In May, Mastriano’s upward climb through the polls ahead of the GOP primary was noted by President Donald Trump, who issued an endorsement for the gubernatorial candidate just days before the primary.

“There is no one in Pennsylvania who has done more, or fought harder, for Election Integrity than State Senator Doug Mastriano,” Trump stated in his endorsement. “He has revealed the Deceit, Corruption, and outright Theft of the 2020 Presidential Election, and will do something about it.”

Mastriano has been unafraid to bring attention to the issue of election integrity in Pennsylvania. In November 2020, Mastriano hosted some of the first election hearings after voter fraud was rumored to have affected Pennsylvania’s presidential election results.

In November, Mastriano will face Democrat gubernatorial challenger Josh Shapiro, Pennsylvania’s attorney general. Shapiro is a notorious critic of Mastriano’s push to secure election integrity, posting on Twitter in June that reports of election fraud in the 2020 presidential election were part of “the Big Lie.”

However, Mastriano’s popularity among GOP voters indicates that Pennsylvanians are concerned about the security of their elections, especially as numerous reports of election fraud have continued to surface across the country since 2020.

Mastriano still has to win the Pennsylvania general election in November to be elected governor. Still, his widespread support among GOP voters will likely give him a good chance of sailing to victory.
