Millions of Americans are standing behind Tucker Carlson. When news broke that he was fired by Fox News on Monday, social media went wild as thousands of Twitter users expressed their outrage. “#BoycottFoxNews” began to trend as those who support Tucker Carlson vowed to never watch Fox News again.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., commented on the situation in a post, stating, “Cable news is about to be taught a powerful lesson after Fox News caved to the woke mob and fired Tucker Carlson.”
Public trust in the media is already down. According to a Knight Foundation survey published in February, more than half of Americans believe that the news media purposely misleads them for their own interests.
The Fox News decision to fire its most popular host is also highly questionable being that, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., called for Tucker Carlson to be fired after he reported on new video footage that challenged the politicized Jan. 6 narrative, according to RSBN.
In addition, Tucker Carlson went on air to question the CIA’s involvement in the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, per Fox News. He also decried the indictment of President Trump and even called for the arrest of former President George W. Bush, a clip posted by social media influencer Benny Johnson showed.
Tucker Carlson had a strong following due to his reporting style. Ratings had skyrocketed in April, but now that Fox News ousted him they have already lost $962 million in market value.
Weighing in on the decline of cable news, Rep. Greene stated, “Americans no longer blindly watch the news like they did decades ago.”
Her frustration over the situation is being felt across the nation. Based on the immediate backlash, Green’s conclusion may already be coming to fruition as “Americans are about to quit watching.”
