Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., strongly reminded Americans that Ukraine is “not America’s 51st state nor is Ukraine a NATO ally” amid the House’s move to reject her amendment that would have axed more funding for Ukraine in the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).
According to Politico, this move comes as 3,000 reservists have been activated by Biden. The reservists are aimed at supporting military operations in Europe as bloody, violent war between Ukraine and Russia rages on.
“Passing America’s NATIONAL Defense Authorization Act should not include funding for endless foreign wars while there are homeless veterans laying in our streets,” Rep. Greene continued.
For reference, Rep. Greene had offered an amendment to the NDAA that would have nixed the $300 million in funding that would have been authorized to Ukraine. “341 members of the U.S. House of Representatives just voted to reject my amendment & fund a proxy war with Russia in our NATIONAL Defense Authorization Act,” Greene said on Thursday.
The activation of 3,000 reservists to Europe follows Biden’s announcement that he would be sending cluster munitions to Ukraine to further aid them in their efforts against Russian aggression. President Donald Trump succinctly slammed Biden for the decision, stating that an emphasis should instead be on “immediately deescalating this bloody, dangerous, and out of control conflict.”
Rep. Greene similarly critiqued Biden’s decision on Twitter, noting that cluster munitions were “brutal, inhumane weapons that cause lasting harm to civilians.”
She added, “The US is a part of the Convention on Cluster Munitions banning the use, production, transfer, and stockpiling of these weapons. Sending them to Ukraine is a clear escalation. What’s next? Chemical or biological weapons, nuclear weapons?”
Her statement echoed the warning of President Trump, who has stated that a potential World War Three would be “a nightmare beyond imagination” and “obliteration” because of the level of nuclear weaponry that is on the table.
