Joe Biden signed an order to activate reserve members of the Armed Forces. The order was released Thursday and calls upon “Selected Reserve and Certain Members of the Individual Ready Reserve.”

Biden stated in the document, “I hereby determine that it is necessary to augment the active Armed Forces of the United States for the effective conduct of Operation Atlantic Resolve in and around the United States European Command’s area of responsibility.”

He also authorized the Secretary of Defense and Secretary of Homeland Security “to order to active duty any units, and any individual members not assigned to a unit organized to serve as a unit of the Selected Reserve.”

The order notes that this is “not to exceed 3,000 total members at any one time.”

This action comes amid criticisms of Biden’s authorization of the use of cluster bombs, which are illegal in over 100 nations including the UK, France, and Germany, according to NBC News.

According to a DOD press release, Army Lt. Gen. Douglas A. Sims II, Joint Staff director of operations, said during a press briefing, “This [executive order] reaffirms the unwavering support and commitment to defend NATO‘s eastern flank in the wake of Russia’s illegal and unprovoked war on Ukraine.”

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., responded to the activation by tweeting, “Tonight as the House is debating the National Defense Authorization Act we find out that Joe Biden is calling up Reserves to Operation Atlantic Resolve which is the unofficial operation supporting the war in Ukraine.”

Charlie Kirk, founder and CEO of Turning Point USA, mocked the decision. He wrote, “According to a new Presidential Action, Joe Biden is calling up reservists for active duty in Operation Atlantic Resolve, because apparently it can’t fill the ranks of its rainbow flag military as recruitment plummets.”

Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla., also expressed her opposition to the order stating, “I will not vote to send our sons and daughters to die in a war against Russia for Ukraine.”
