On Monday, the Trump administration released a new report indicating that the economy is moving in the right direction. According to the White House statement, “New Data: Lower Prices, Bigger Paychecks,” significant indicators are showing cost decreases for everyday items purchased by Americans across the nation.
The data released by the White House included findings by DoorDash’s State and Local Commerce report. According to DoorDash, the data compiled within its report is “built from hundreds of millions of real transactions across groceries, restaurants, and Main Street businesses,” and it “captures what’s actually happening in thousands of neighborhoods across America, rather than depending only on traditional surveys or samples released months later.”
According to the report, the cost of essential goods is dropping. The Breakfast Basics Index tracks the average price of three eggs, a glass of milk, a bagel, and an avocado. This index reportedly decreased by 14% between March and September. The cost of these basics has reduced by 1.7 percent overall over the past year.
The White House also reported overall price decreases for everyday items and essentials ranging from cheese, cereal bars, and fresh fruit to batteries, medicines and vitamins.
In addition, overall wage growth outpaced restaurant price increases. DoorDash noted a rebound in economic activity in downtown areas of major cities, with weekday lunch orders to business districts increasing in over 50% of cities.
Finally, the administration noted signs of economic stabilization with fewer consumers reporting business closures within their communities. DoorDash concluded its report with a statement on the resilience of local economies, reflecting that “Local commerce is alive, evolving, and deeply connected to how Americans live and work today.”
According to the administration, these numbers reflect positive progress for everyday Americans and show that President Trump’s economic agenda is “fueling an economic comeback that is only just beginning as President Trump works to Make America Affordable Again.”
