NEW YORK IS IN PLAY: Trump cuts Biden’s lead in the state to 10 points — less than half of 2020 victory margin

In the latest show of proof that left-wing prosecutors’ efforts to interfere in the 2024 presidential election are backfiring, a newly released survey reveals that President Donald J. Trump may be within striking distance of Joe Biden in one of America’s strongest Democrat states (and the backdrop for Alvin Bragg’s ongoing “hush money” sham trial): New York.

New polling from the Siena College Research Institute, conducted over a three-day period from April 15-17, shows President Trump within ten points of Joe Biden in the state, 37 percent to 47 percent. In February, the same poll, which was taken prior to the start of the New York City trial (which will wrap up week two on Friday), showed Biden leading by 12 (48 percent-36 percent).

Among Independent voters, Trump leads Biden by 14 points, 46 percent-32 percent.

If this margin were to hold (or tighten further) going into November, it could indicate a seismic shift in the voting habits of traditionally deep-blue New York: Joe Biden carried the state’s 29 electoral votes by a margin of 23 points four years ago, and the last time a Republican declared victory there was in 1984 when President Ronald Reagan defeated ex-Vice President Walter Mondale by a more modest 8 points.

Aside from Michael Dukakis, who narrowly defeated George H. W. Bush in New York in the 1988 presidential election, the Democratic nominee has won the state by a double-digit margin in every presidential election since.

This is not the only warning sign for Democrats according to the Siena poll. In addition to Biden’s support sitting below 50 percent against President Trump, his approval rating among New Yorkers is also underwater (45 percent-55 percent), as well as his overall favorability rating (45 percent-52 percent). The same goes for liberal Governor Kathy Hochul, whose approval (45 percent-49 percent) and favorability (40 percent-49 percent) scores have both fallen to all-time lows since taking office after the resignation of Andrew Cuomo in 2021.

These results could also signal that, beyond Democrats’ historically poor handling of issues from the border and crime to the devastating impact of inflation, President Trump’s message of renewal is resonating among those who’ve dealt with them firsthand: This morning, he was greeted by an enthusiastic group of local Teamsters during a surprise stop in the city en route to court.

Similarly, a huge crowd gathered to see President Trump last Tuesday when he visited a Harlem bodega where Jose Alba, a 60-year-old shop employee, was viciously attacked by a man in July 2022 but was then arrested and charged with murder by the Manhattan DA’s office for acting in self-defense. The charges were eventually dropped, although Alba still spent time imprisoned at Rikers Island.
