Former Sen. David Perdue, R-Ga., shared Tuesday that President Donald Trump will do “whatever it takes” to help conservatives defeat Gov. Brian Kemp, R-Ga., in the May primary election.

Before President Trump held the Georgia rally last month, Perdue’s campaign was trailing behind Kemp’s. However, Perdue believes that the momentum started by Trump will help boost his chances of defeating the current governor.

Perdue told Fox News that before the rally, “only about half of Republicans in the state understood that I had Trump’s endorsement.” He continued, “[Trump] wanted to make sure he laid that down with no misunderstanding.”

The Trump-endorsed candidate said the 45th president reminded the people of Georgia of “what’s at stake here in this primary.”

“He’s trying to get everybody to get out and vote,” Perdue added before warning that it would be a “huge mistake” to sit out the primary and wait for the general election to vote.

Kemp, the current governor of Georgia who once held the support of President Trump, has become one of Trump’s top targets in the 2022 midterms due to his certification of the 2020 election.

On the other hand, Perdue has gained the 45th president’s favor by stating that he would not have certified the results of the 2020 presidential election based on the widespread evidence of voter fraud.

When asked if Trump would make another campaign appearance in Georgia, Perdue explained, “If he needs to, he’ll be here.” Perdue also told Fox News that Trump is “going to do whatever it takes to win this thing.”

Trump endorsed Perdue in December, calling him a “Conservative fighter” who “isn’t afraid of the Radical Left.” In his endorsement, Trump described Perdue as the “only candidate” in Georgia’s Republican primary who will be able to defeat Democrat Stacey Abrams in the November election.

Trump has made it clear to the people of Georgia, “A vote for David Perdue is vote to save Georgia from the Radical Left.”
