The PGA Tour is expected to return to Trump National Doral in Miami next year for the first time since 2016, according to a report from Sports Business Journal.
The tournament is scheduled to take place from April 27 to May 3, possibly as one of the tour’s signature events.
Its addition would fall between the Zurich Classic in New Orleans and the Truist Championship, resulting in calendar changes that would push the CJ Cup and the Byron Nelson to later dates, immediately following the PGA Championship, according to Fox Business. The Charles Schwab Challenge, typically held after the PGA Championship, would be moved accordingly.
Trump Doral, one of the Tour’s historic venues, hosted PGA events every year from 1962 through 2016. The course was home to the WGC-Cadillac Championship from 2007 to 2016, before the tournament relocated to Mexico City. The final PGA Tour event at Doral was won by Adam Scott in 2016.
“The PGA Tour played annually at the Blue Monster course, renowned for its water hazards, from 1962 through 2016. For the last decade of that run, the tournament was a World Golf Championships event. Tiger Woods won four times at Doral, twice in the WGC era and twice when it was the Ford Championship, including a memorable duel with Phil Mickelson in 2005,” Sports Illustrated reported.
The course nearly hosted the 2022 PGA Championship at Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey, but the PGA of America opted to move the event to Southern Hills in Tulsa, Oklahoma, following the January 6 Capitol riot. Bedminster has since hosted two LIV Golf events and previously welcomed the 2017 U.S. Women’s Open, won by Sung Hyun Park.
Trump National Doral has also served as a regular stop for LIV Golf, holding events in each of the league’s first four seasons. President Donald Trump purchased the Doral property in 2012 for $150 million, emerging from bankruptcy, and invested $250 million in renovations.
