Trump-endorsed Gov. Greg Abbott, R-Texas, is currently leading Democrat challenger Beto O’Rourke in Texas’s gubernatorial race, a poll revealed Wednesday.
The latest Quinnipiac University poll of 1,327 likely Texas voters surveyed from Sept. 22-26 revealed that Abbott is leading O’Rourke by seven points, six weeks before voters head to the polls.
The poll published Wednesday showed that Abbott received 53 percent of voter support as O’Rourke trailed behind at 46 percent, widening the lead indicated by previous surveys.
A similar poll from UT/Texas Politics Project last week reported Abbott held a 45 percent lead over O’Rourke’s 40 percent of voter support.
Moreover, according to the Quinnipiac University poll, Abbott led his challenger in four out of five policy issues.
When asked who would better handle economic issues, gun policy, and the southern border crisis, Abbott easily outperformed against O’Rourke. On the topic of abortion, however, O’Rourke managed to lead Abbott by only two points.
Fighting against the Biden administration’s failed border policies, the Lone Star State governor sent migrants to Washington D.C., New York City, and Chicago, vowing that “Texas will continue busing migrants until the President secures the border.”
Earlier this week, Abbott took executive action to officially designate drug cartels traveling across the border as terrorists and directed the Texas Department of Public Safety to “take immediate action to disrupt the cartel & gang activity,” as recently reported by RSBN.
Abbott’s advantage on the border crisis will surely help him cruise to victory in November, as most poll respondents ranked that as the most pressing issue heading the into midterms.
