During a historic second state visit to the United Kingdom, President Donald Trump held a press conference with Prime Minister Keir Starmer, announcing on Thursday that the U.S. and the UK have cemented a new deal aimed at stoking the flames of technological revolution.
President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump’s visit to the United Kingdom has been marked by elegant pomp and circumstance, featuring carriage rides, music, and a stunning state dinner at Windsor Castle, hosted by King Charles III.
PM Starmer welcomed the president warmly to Chequers – a historic estate in Buckinghamshire County – and noted the special relationship between the two countries.
“First partners on defense, first partners on trade with the groundbreaking deal we struck in May, and now, with a new agreement that we just signed this afternoon, confirming our status as the first partner in science and technology,” Starmer stated.
Starmer referred to this new “Tech Prosperity Deal” as having the “power to change lives.”
“This partnership today is a signal of our determination to win this race together and to ensure it brings real benefits in jobs, in growth, in lower bills, to put more hard-earned cash in people’s pockets at the end of each month,” the prime minister continued.
President Donald Trump thanked Starmer for UK’s “wonderful hospitality” shown to him and the First Lady during their visit. “We will never forget it,” he said. “As I said last night, the bond between our countries is like no other anywhere in the world…we’re forever joined and we are forever friends.”
The groundbreaking tech deal signed between America and the UK is no small feat – it’s worth billions of dollars, and will ensure that the allied country receives significant support in the realm of AI investment.
President Trump promised to supply the UK with “a secure, reliable supply of the best AI software, hardware on Earth…we are also joining forces on quantum computing and nuclear power – a natural partnership with close allies.”
According to TIME, this tech deal includes investments from tech giants like OpenAI, Google, Nvidia, and Salesforce, creating job opportunities in the UK not seen in decades.
Essentially, this deal ensures that AI investments in the UK are rooted strongly in American-built and managed technology.
