President Donald Trump asked Florida Republican Rep. Mike Waltz to serve as the National Security Adviser, multiple outlets reported on Monday evening.
Waltz, 50, is a retired Army National Guard officer and war veteran who became the first Green Beret elected to the House of Representatives.
Richard Goldberg, who worked at the National Security Council during Donald Trump’s first term, described Waltz as an excellent choice, noting that his distinguished background as a top U.S. service member, along with his experience in Congress, will be extremely beneficial to Trump.
“With fires raging across the world right now, Waltz is well positioned to help the President put out those fires,” said Goldberg, according to the Associated Press.
Waltz was also among those quick to respond to Trump’s win, sharing his eagerness to work with Trump in the next administration during a recent interview with Fox Business.
“It’s no surprise that foreign leaders are eager to reconnect with President Trump. They know he brings strength, understands deterrence, and knows how to make deals that WORK,” he posted alongside his interview in a post to X.
Trump’s selection Waltz adds to a growing list of appointments and nominations in recent days since his election victory.
Trump is expected to nominate South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem as secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, according to multiple reports.
The DHS oversees U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Secret Service and the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
Trump is also expected to name Florida Republican Sen. Marco Rubio as Secretary of State, according to multiple outlets and first reported by The New York Times.
Trump named Susie Wiles as his new White House chief of staff on Thursday, making it his first major staffing decision for his second administration, RSBN previously reported.
Wiles served as Trump’s campaign manager and becomes the first female White House chief of staff for a president.
“Susie Wiles just helped me achieve one of the greatest political victories in American history, and was an integral part of both my 2016 and 2020 successful campaigns,” Trump said in a statement.
