President Donald Trump is expected to name Florida Republican Sen. Marco Rubio as Secretary of State, according to multiple outlets and first reported by The New York Times.

The official announcement concerning the senator who was once considered a contender as Trump’s running mate has not yet been released.

Rubio is the son of Cuban exiles and was first elected to the Senate in 2010. According to Fox News, he voted against sending $95 billion in aid to Ukraine in April to continue its defense against Russia.

“While Marco is a little more hawkish than the incoming president and vice president, he’s actually not as far away from them as many people might assume at first blush,” a Trump ally said. “He’s become far more aligned with the president on issues regarding tariffs. He has a similar stand on the China issue, and he even voted against the last round of Ukraine funding.”

If Rubio becomes the next Secretary of State, Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis will be able to choose his replacement in the Senate. The appointment would last until the 2026 election.

The anticipated appointment follows a growing list of announcements for new leaders in the Trump administration since his presidential win last week.

Trump named Susie Wiles as his new White House chief of staff on Thursday, making it his first major staffing decision for his second administration, RSBN previously reported.

Wiles served as Trump’s campaign manager and becomes the first female White House chief of staff for a president.

“Susie Wiles just helped me achieve one of the greatest political victories in American history, and was an integral part of both my 2016 and 2020 successful campaigns,” Trump said in a statement.

“Susie is tough, smart, innovative, and is universally admired and respected. Susie will continue to work tirelessly to Make America Great Again. It is a well deserved honor to have Susie as the first-ever female Chief of Staff in United States history. I have no doubt that she will make our country proud,” he added.

On Monday afternoon, Trump announced that former Republican Rep. Lee Zeldin, N.Y., will oversee the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

In a press release, Trump wrote, “As the 45th and 47th President of the United States, I am pleased to announce that the Highly Respected former Congressman from New York, Lee Zeldin, will be appointed to serve as The Administrator of The United States Environmental Protective Agency (EPA).”
