President Donald Trump announced this week that he has moved to name his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, as an “Envoy of Peace,” amid ongoing reconstruction and peacekeeping efforts in the Middle East.
The president, during an inaugural meeting of the Board of Peace in Washington, D.C., said his administration was “making Jared also an envoy of peace,” reminiscent of Special Envoy Steve Witkoff’s key position in negotiating for and representing the interests of the United States amid its peacekeeping goals.
Kushner, who is married to the president’s eldest daughter, Ivanka Trump, has been deeply involved in assisting in helping with the Gaza ceasefire and subsequent rebuilding and peacekeeping efforts spearheaded by the United States.
Thursday’s meeting in D.C., led by Board of Peace Chairman, President Donald Trump, highlighted the multi-billion-dollar relief efforts going into Gaza – $7 billion collectively from several member nations and another $10 billion pledged by the president on behalf of the United States.
“We cannot change the past, but I think that what we’ve seen today is that we can potentially change the future,” Kushner said during Thursday’s meeting. “…What you see today is just a small sample of the work that’s been done.”
He added, “We are here to help the people of Gaza, to lift them up, and give them every opportunity to succeed.”
Kushner was closely involved in President Trump’s first term in the White House. In 2025, Kushner returned in an unofficial capacity and has been involved in efforts to help resolve the situation in the Middle East.
“We really see this as a partnership with [Gazans] and with the Israelis to see if we can create an environment that can be peaceful, that can be functional, that can offer people the opportunity to really live a better life…failure’s not an option, and we have to really push forward and keep finding ways to succeed with this,” Kushner said on Thursday.
