President Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping spoke on a wide range of subjects during a phone call on Wednesday. The president shared a statement about the call on Truth Social, describing the communication as thorough and productive.
“I have just completed an excellent telephone conversation with President Xi, of China,” President Trump said. Since returning to office in January 2025, President Trump has engaged in a back-and-forth tariff battle with China, attempting to secure better future trade deals for the U.S. Despite taking a tough approach to trade relations, President Trump has continued to praise President Xi, referring to him as a strong leader and “the boss” in China.
President Trump continued his statement by outlining the broad range of topics covered in the phone call, including the war between Russia and Ukraine, the status of relations between the U.S. and Iran, trade negotiations between the U.S. and China, and an upcoming trip the president will take to China in April.
“It was a long and thorough call, where many important subjects were discussed, including Trade, Military, the April trip that I will be making to China (which I very much look forward to!), Taiwan, the War between Russia/Ukraine, the current situation with Iran, the purchase of Oil and Gas by China from the United States, the consideration by China of the purchase of additional Agricultural products including lifting the Soybean count to 20 Million Tons for the current season (They have committed to 25 Million Tons for next season!), Airplane engine deliveries, and numerous other subjects, all very positive!” President Trump said.
The president emphasized that he has a strong relationship with President Xi and wants to continue cooperation between the U.S. and China.
“The relationship with China, and my personal relationship with President Xi, is an extremely good one, and we both realize how important it is to keep it that way,” President Trump said. “I believe that there will be many positive results achieved over the next three years of my Presidency having to do with President Xi, and the People’s Republic of China!”
