President Donald Trump warned Tuesday that Republicans who vote against the SAVE America Act could face serious political consequences, saying he would oppose their reelection efforts.

The comments came as Senate Republicans prepared to begin debate on the legislation, which has drawn strong support from the GOP but faces opposition from Democrats.

President Trump promoted the bill in a post on Truth Social, calling it a major legislative priority.

“The Save America Act is one of the most IMPORTANT & CONSEQUENTIAL pieces of legislation in the history of Congress, and America itself,” he wrote.

“NO MORE RIGGED ELECTIONS! Voter I.D., Proof of Citizenship, No Rigged Mail-In Voting (We are the only Country in the World that allows this!), No Men in Women’s Sports, No Transgender MUTILIZATION of our Children. 90% to 99% ISSUES ALL!” the president continued. “Only sick, demented, or deranged people in the House or Senate could vote against THE SAVE AMERICA ACT. If they do, each one of these points, separately, will be used against the user in his/her political campaign for office – A guaranteed loss!”

The Senate is expected to debate the bill without invoking a talking filibuster, a tactic some Republicans have considered to counter Democratic opposition. President Trump also suggested he would withhold endorsements from candidates who oppose the measure.

The warning could have implications in the upcoming Texas Republican Senate primary, where Sen. John Cornyn is seeking Trump’s backing. The president has not yet endorsed either Republican candidate in the current runoff election.

Cornyn has said he supports the SAVE America Act but has not yet secured enough support among senators to advance the legislation. He continues to also face a runoff challenge from Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.

Paxton has previously said he would consider withdrawing from the race if Cornyn succeeds in passing the SAVE America Act.

The legislation is expected to face a contentious debate in the Senate as lawmakers weigh election-related provisions and other policy issues included in the bill.
