During a Wednesday broadcast of the Fox News Channel’s “Will Cain Show,” a Democratic lawmaker praises President Trump’s success in securing the border.
In a surprising turn of events, Breitbart reported that Sen. Peter Welch (D-VT) gave President Trump credit for his border policies. When asked by host Will Cain, “Why do Democrats seem to be so hell-bent on keeping criminal illegal aliens from being handed over to ICE?” Welch denied this statement for Democrats in Vermont, “We’re not a sanctuary state, as you call it.”
He told Cain, “Two things: Number one, the border has to be secure. We’ve made great progress on that,” and added, “Number two, criminals should be deported.”
President Trump’s administration has worked hard to solve the historic illegal immigration crisis he inherited after Democratic rule. According to a press release from Homeland Security, Secretary Kristi Noem shared that, “nearly 3 million illegal aliens have left the U.S. because of the Trump administration’s crackdown on illegal immigration, including an estimated 2.2 million self-deportations and more than 675,000 deportations.”
The press release also reveals that since May 2025, the Border Patrol has released zero illegal aliens into the country and that apprehensions at the southern border are at an all-time low. Noem said, “Meanwhile, we have saved taxpayers more than $13.2 billion here at DHS. Countless lives have been saved, communities have been strengthened, and the American people have been put first again.”
Despite this, many Democrats have been violently clashing with ICE agents carrying out operations to remove illegal immigrants. Welch agrees that the criminals need to be removed.
“The bottom line here, let me just say this very clearly, we need a secure border. Democrats understand that. We should be deporting criminals,” he told Cain, according to Breitbart.
According to Homeland Security, 70 percent of arrests made by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) are convicted criminals or have criminal charges. Highlighting the need for continued efforts to remove illegal immigrants who pose a security risk. Noem shared that in 2026, ICE has 120 percent more officers and agents after hiring 12,000 Americans.
When Cain mentioned that the border is now secure, Welch replied, “And President Trump, I’ll give him credit for that.”
