Nearly two million migrants were apprehended along the U.S.-Mexico border, according to unofficial data, while at least 500,000 migrants are estimated to have evaded Border Patrol agents and entered the United States in 2021.
This estimate reported by Breitbart is based on previously released official Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) data plus estimates based on first-hand accounts for the month of December. In total, these numbers equal roughly 2.4 million illegal immigrants that entered the United States in the first year of the Biden administration.
Official CBP data, released last month, indicates border patrol agents apprehended exactly 1,773,674 migrants through the first 11 months of 2021. This is a massive increase from the last month of the Trump presidency, in only 7,891 migrants were encountered at the border. In contrast, at its peak in Sept. 2021, 69,697 migrants were encountered at the border.
The massive influx of migrants entering the U.S. has overwhelmed border patrol agents as thinly-staffed border patrol has left miles of the U.S.-Mexico border unattended. In November 2021 alone, for example, an estimated 52,000 “got-aways” gained entry into the United States.
“The best we can do is just record the got-aways and move on,” one border patrol agent told Breitbart. “We’re trying to increase patrols but the flow of migrants surrendering is unstoppable.”
The Biden administration’s lax approach to border security and rescission of President Trump’s border control policies has contributed to this massive influx of illegal immigration.
Joe Biden’s failure to effectively control the border has led to Republican-efforts in border states, like Texas, to provide a stronger defense to the national border. Gov. Greg Abbott, R-Texas, for example, recently ordered the Texas Department of Public Safety vehicles to form a barrier to prevent immigrants from crossing the U.S.-Mexico border. He also released state funds to continue building Trump’s border wall in Texas.
After legal challenges to the Biden administration’s rollback of Trump policies, a federal court ordered the administration to reinstate Trump’s highly-effective ‘Remain in Mexico’ policy, which went into effect last month.
