Republican Bernie Moreno has defeated incumbent Democrat Sen. Sherrod Brown in Ohio’s U.S. Senate race, according to Decision Desk HQ.
With 85 percent of the votes cast, Moreno led Brown with nearly 51 percent support to 45.7 percent in Ohio, giving the Republicans their second flip in the U.S. Senate following Jim Justice’s earlier win in West Virginia.
With this key victory, Republicans hold 50 seats in the U.S. Senate, assuming they do not win any more seats.
If President Donald Trump wins the presidency, and the GOP does not pick up any more Senate seats, the divided upper chamber would still flip into Republican control, as a presumed Republican Vice President JD Vance would cast any deciding tie-breaking votes.
Should the GOP win any more Senate seats on Election Day, they would win an outright majority in the U.S. Senate, which is currently led by Democrats with their 51 seats to 49 seats.
