A new shocking report has pulled back the curtain on the voting processes of Washington, D.C., alluding to a trend that is building momentum in some of the most powerful Democrat strongholds in the nation.
According to Fox News Digital, there are hundreds of non-citizens currently registered to vote in Washington, D.C., ahead of the 2024 elections – 310 are Democrats and 28 are Republicans. Other voters included “unaffiliated noncitizens with no party” and a handful of those registered with the D.C. Statehood Green Party.
This reflects an interesting trend in the broader U.S. Some areas are actively pushing to allow noncitizens to vote in local elections. For example, there are more than a dozen cities between Maryland, California, and Vermont that allow noncitizens to vote, according to data from Stateline.
In light of the overwhelming illegal immigration crisis, Republicans have raised concerns about whether the influx of millions of undocumented entrants could cause an increase in noncitizen voting.
In early May, Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, R-La., responded to this issue by introducing a bill with House Republicans aimed at mandating nationwide voter ID in federal elections. The legislation is called the “SAVE Act” or “Safeguard American Voter Eligibility” Act.
Upon the bill’s introduction, Speaker Johnson explained, “Americans are deeply concerned about this [election security]…and due to the wide open border that the Biden administration has refused to close, in fact, that they engineered to open, we now have so many non-citizens in the country that if only one out of a hundred of those voted, they would cast hundreds of thousands of votes.”
According to Fox, this spring, House Democrats and Republicans voted on a bipartisan bill to reverse a 2022 D.C. law that allowed noncitizens to vote in their local election processes. However, the bill has not yet seen a Senate vote, therefore allowing the noncitizen voting registration process to continue in the district.
