Gov. Greg Abbott, R-Texas, announced Wednesday his unprecedented action to secure the border by transporting illegal migrants to Washington, D.C.

The announcement comes after the Biden administration revoked Title 42, the Trump-era policy allowing mass expulsions of migrants to combat Covid-19.

At a Wednesday press conference, Abbott accused Biden’s open-border policies of paving “the way for dangerous cartels and deadly drugs” to flow into the country. He added the Lone Star State would take “unprecedented action” to secure the border from the influx of illegal migrants projected to storm in the upcoming months.

In response to the border crises primarily ignored by the Biden administration, Abbott directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) to charter buses and flights to send migrants in Texas to the U.S. Capitol. The governor also ordered the Department of Public Safety (DPS) to conduct “enhanced” safety inspections of vehicles crossing into the state to prepare for a smuggling surge.

On the list of aggressive measures, the governor plans to employ boat blockades that will deploy razor-wire at low-water crossings and the installment of container blockades to prevent illegal crossings.

“The new strategies announced today and next week will further strengthen our already robust response to the Biden border disaster, and we will use any and all lawful powers to curtail the flow of drugs, human traffickers, illegal immigrants, weapons, and other contraband into Texas,” the governor said.

Other Republican-led states have also acted against the Biden administration’s blatant disregard for the ongoing border crisis. Louisiana, Missouri, and Arizona filed a lawsuit against Biden following the repeal of Title 42.

“This suit challenges an imminent, man-made, self-inflicted calamity: the abrupt elimination of the only safety valve preventing this Administration’s disastrous border policies from devolving into an unmitigated chaos and catastrophe,” the suit states.

Gov. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., further condemned Biden, saying the termination of Title 42 will “supercharge the skyrocketing flow of illegal aliens, increasing drug, human and sex trafficking.”
