Gov. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., denounced Biden’s decision to revoke Title 42, a Trump-era policy allowing mass expulsions of migrants at the border to combat Covid-19, during one of the worst border crises in the country.
Following a Friday press release announcing the termination of Title 42 by the CDC, the Florida governor took to Twitter, calling out Biden’s “reckless border policies” and “dereliction of duty.”
“Joe Biden’s reckless border policies have allowed 2+ million foreigners to enter our country illegally via the southern border,” DeSantis said Monday. “Revoking Title 42 will supercharge the skyrocketing flow of illegal aliens, increasing drug, human and sex trafficking.
“This is a dereliction of duty!” he added.
DeSantis’ sentiments have been felt by many as Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt, Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich, and Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry filed a lawsuit against Biden following the CDC’s announcement.
“Time and again, the Biden Administration has failed to act to secure our Southern border and have terminated successful programs like Title 42 and the ‘Remain in Mexico’ Policy,” Schmitt said, announcing the lawsuit Monday.
Schmitt warned that terminating the Trump-era policy will “create an unprecedented surge at the southern border,” overwhelming “law enforcement agencies and non-governmental organizations.”
The backlash also follows a warning from Border Patrol Chief Raul Ortiz last week about rising numbers of border encounters.
Ortiz revealed that the U.S. is on track to hit one million migrant encounters along the border within six months into the fiscal year 2022.
President Trump recently slammed Biden’s weakness on the border crisis, saying Americans “deserve a president who will stop the biggest invasion ever of our country, and probably of any country!”
“Our border was sealed,” Trump told the crowd during Michigan’s rally on Saturday. “We had the lowest numbers ever recorded.”
Under the Trump administration, 83 percent of migrant encounters led to explosions under Title 42, compared to 55 percent under Biden, the Migrant Policy Institute reported.
Biden’s continuation of repealing strong border security policies enacted by the Trump administration has opened the flood gates to a massive influx of illegal immigrants.
The Biden administration’s lack of attention to the ongoing border crisis has undoubtedly put Americans in danger as drug and human smugglers take full advantage of Biden’s failures.
