In a courageous educational policy move, Oklahoma’s State Superintendent of Public Instruction Ryan Walters announced on X that, “The Bible is back in Oklahoma’s classrooms. We are getting our kids back on track.”
Walters announced the decision on November 14, just days after Republicans experienced massive wins nationwide in the General Election.
Walters was elected in 2022 after campaigning to combat “woke ideology.” Bringing the Bible back into the classroom is an advancement of his promised policies that align with his conservative educational philosophy.
In his video statement, Walters explained his decision. “Oklahoma is the first state to bring the Bible back to the classroom,” he said.
The state purchased over 500 Bibles to be distributed to “the AP government classrooms across the state,” Walters remarked.
He held up the God Bless the U.S.A. Bible, which was endorsed by President Trump several months ago.
He explained that the version hitting the shelves in Oklahoma classrooms would contain the Bible, the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence and the Bill of Rights.
Walters emphasized the importance of the move. “These are foundational documents in our nation’s history. Our kids have to understand the role the Bible played in influencing American history.”
Walters concluded his statement by saying, “It’s very clear that the radical left has driven the Bible out of the classroom which leads to a lack of understanding of American history. We will not stop until we’ve brought the Bible back to every classroom in the state.”
Supporters of Walters’s initiative to reintroduce the Bible into Oklahoma classrooms argue that it is not just about religion but about embracing a comprehensive educational approach that includes understanding the roots of Western civilization.
Previously, a proposal was laid out by the Oklahoma Department of Education for the purchase of 55,000 Bibles. That proposal was later withdrawn, but one local media outlet reported that the agency said it would be introducing a modified version soon.
Walters has been very vocal in his support for President Trump’s educational plans for American students. In a Friday afternoon post on X, he posted another video promising to protect prayer in the state’s schools.
“Prayer will be protected in Oklahoma schools. It is our Constitutional right to express one’s religious beliefs. We are ending atheism as a state sponsored religion,” he captioned the post.
