President Donald Trump’s administration is considering a pause on funding to family planning groups, including Planned Parenthood, of about $120 million, according to the Wall Street Journal on Tuesday.

The pause is expected in order to review whether funds were used in diversity efforts and could be announced this week.

“The Trump-Vance-Musk administration wants to shut down Planned Parenthood health centers by any means necessary, and they’ll end people’s access to birth control, cancer screenings, STI testing and treatment, and more to do it,” Alexis McGill Johnson, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood Federation of America, said in response to the report.

According to the report, the HHS could later decide to rescind the grants or reallocate the funding to other organizations.

The news comes after the president signed an executive order in January to eliminate DEI funding.

“The Biden Administration forced illegal and immoral discrimination programs, going by the name ‘diversity, equity, and inclusion’ (DEI), into virtually all aspects of the Federal Government, in areas ranging from airline safety to the military.  This was a concerted effort stemming from President Biden’s first day in office, when he issued Executive Order 13985, ‘Advancing Racial Equity and Support for Underserved Communities Through the Federal Government,’” Trump’s order stated.

“Pursuant to Executive Order 13985 and follow-on orders, nearly every Federal agency and entity submitted ‘Equity Action Plans’ to detail the ways that they have furthered DEIs infiltration of the Federal Government. The public release of these plans demonstrated immense public waste and shameful discrimination. That ends today. Americans deserve a government committed to serving every person with equal dignity and respect, and to expending precious taxpayer resources only on making America great.

Over one-third (34 percent) of Planned Parenthood’s funding came from government reimbursements and grants, according to the organization’s 2024 annual report. For the year ending June 30, 2024, a total of over $699 million was received from government sources.
