President Donald Trump was welcomed to South Korea on Tuesday as part of his tour of Asia. During this visit, he was awarded the nation’s highest honor, the Grand Order of Mugungwha.

The White House Rapid Response news team posted a clip of the ceremony to X, where a translator for South Korean President Lee Jae Myung noted that the award was presented, “To honor your achievements in paving the way for peace on the Korean peninsula six years ago, and in anticipation of the peace and prosperity you will bring to the Korean peninsula, we present to you this medal with our deepest appreciation.”

President Trump thanked him, “It’s as beautiful as can possibly be. I’ll always cherish it.” He added. “We have a very great relationship, and it will continue and only get stronger.”

According to the New York Post, President Trump’s Grand Order of Mugungwha medallion was also accompanied by the gift of a large golden crown. Lee said, “It symbolizes the spirit of Silla, which brought peace to the Korean peninsula for the first time, and there will be a new golden age of the Korean-US alliance.”

President Trump also gave a speech at the APEC CEO Summit in South Korea during his visit, noting the importance of strong international relations. “When America thrives, our partners thrive and our alliances thrive with all of the countries, the Indo-Pacific thrives, and that’s good for all of us,” he stated. “The entire world becomes safer and wealthy, greater than ever before. We get along with a lot of countries. We solved a lot of wars and a lot of problems, and that’s all good for all of us.”
