The Trump-endorsed Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt cruised to victory Tuesday night after being declared the projected winner in the GOP fight for the Senate nomination.
The Associated Press handed Schmitt the victory when he reached 45 percent of the vote with 46 percent of votes counted, according to Just the News.
The attorney general successfully defeated a crowded field of Republicans for the nomination, including former Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens, who President Donald Trump had also endorsed a day prior.
On Monday, President Trump, in a shocking move, endorsed both Schmitt and Greitens in the state’s GOP Senate primary election, RSBN previously reported.
The president shared the news through his Save America PAC on Monday, writing, “There is a BIG Election in the Great State of Missouri, and we must send a MAGA Champion and True Warrior to the U.S. Senate, someone who will fight for Border Security, Election Integrity, our Military and Great Veterans, together with having a powerful toughness on Crime and the Border.”
“We need a person who will not back down to the Radical Left Lunatics who are destroying our Country,” Trump added.
The 45th president told the voters of Missouri to “make up their own minds” in this election and gave his endorsement to “ERIC” without specifying which one.
Missouri voters officially chose Schmitt for the GOP nomination and he is set to face off against the Democrat opponent in November.
