Trump-backed State Sen. John McGuire, R-Va., won Virginia’s 5th Congressional District primary on Tuesday.
According to the Associated Press, McGuire was declared the winner on June 18 in a close race against current seat holder Rep. Bob Good, R-Va.
Despite Good’s demands for a recount, McGuire led a strong campaign after being endorsed by President Donald Trump.
McGuire’s commitment to the America First movement was avidly displayed as he questioned election integrity after the 2020 presidential election results raised serious concerns, but his story is also one that portrays the heart of the MAGA movement.
On his website, McGuire describes his early life, including being abandoned as a child and placed in foster care. After being shuffled around, his grandparents rescued him. After high school, he joined the military and later became a Navy SEAL. He served the nation for a decade before becoming a successful business owner focused on improving the health of others.
His concern for veterans, first responders, fiscal responsibility, and the country’s opioid crisis is driven by his faith and desire to support President Trump’s commitment to put America First.
The 45th president recognized this when he supported McGuire’s bid in May.
He pointed out the direct contrast between Good and McGuire in a post on Truth Social, stating, “Bob Good is BAD FOR VIRGINIA, AND BAD FOR THE USA. He turned his back on our incredible movement, and was constantly attacking and fighting me until recently.”
He called McGuire “a true American Hero” and noted that he “will ALWAYS PUT AMERICA FIRST.”
After he won the congressional primary on Tuesday, McGuire wrote on X, “This is the honor of a lifetime.”
