President Trump has called for District Court Judge Tanya Chutkin to recuse herself from presiding over the federal Jan. 6 case that has been brought against him by Biden’s DOJ and special prosecutor Jack Smith.
On Truth Social, the president explained, “Deranged Jack Smith is going before his number one draft pick, the Judge of his ‘dreams’ (WHO MUST BE RECUSED!), in an attempt to take away my FIRST AMENDMENT RIGHTS – This, despite the fact that he, the DOJ, and his many Thug prosecutors, are illegally leaking, everything and anything, to the Fake News Media!!!”
Last week, Trump was indicted on four counts by a federal grand jury and arraigned just two days later at a Washington, D.C. courthouse.
The Trump campaign noted that the indictment was “nothing more than the latest corrupt chapters in the continued pathetic attempt by the Biden Crime Family and their weaponized Department of Justice to interfere with the 2024 Presidential Election, in which President Trump is the undisputed frontrunner, and leading by substantial margins.”
Per Politico, Judge Chutkin was appointed by Obama and has most recently become notorious for issuing astringent sentences to Jan. 6 defendants in D.C.
On Sunday, President Trump wrote a bold statement on Truth Social, slamming Chutkin in all caps and announcing that he would ask for the judge’s formal recusal.
He explained, “THERE IS NO WAY I CAN GET A FAIR TRIAL WITH THE JUDGE ‘ASSIGNED’ TO THE RIDICULOUS FREEDOM OF SPEECH/FAIR ELECTIONS CASE. EVERYBODY KNOWS THIS, AND SO DOES SHE! WE WILL BE IMMEDIATELY ASKING FOR RECUSAL OF THIS JUDGE ON VERY POWERFUL GROUNDS, AND LIKEWISE FOR VENUE CHANGE, OUT OF D.C.”
Over the weekend, the president shared a sentiment that spurred Jack Smith to request a protective order from Judge Chutkin that “would limit what discovery evidence Mr. Trump and his legal can share publicly,” via the Independent.
The statement in question was, “IF YOU GO AFTER ME, I’M COMING AFTER YOU!”
